The Shooting, responsibility 2

I guess that there is no reason to be surprised by this latest church shooting, but it is shocking regardless. I am curious what a preacher could do that is so heinous as to require public execution. But the Bible I read says that such activities will only become more common as time goes by. In fact the Bible I read says that such activities as church shootings will one day be promoted as a healthy pass time. Today, we still find this to be shocking, inhuman, barbaric, or what ever other term you might be able to think of to might describe it. The reality is that another person abused his constitutional right for some unknown reason, now all the people associated with that church in Illinois will pay the price. They are not the only ones who will suffer, every person in the United States who owns a gun will feel the wrath of some one who feels these rights should be curtailed. The problem with the argument is that gun ownership is not just a right but a responsibility. Each and every person in this country who may came into contact with a gun has the responsibility to know two things; First is how to carry themselves when in the presence of a gun, and secondly how to handle a gun. The first may sound silly to some but different situations require a person to carry oneself differently in each situation. Friendly situations are much different than unfriendly ones, and it is important for every one to know how to avoid the unfriendly ones. The second may sound silly to people who do not even like guns but you never know when you are going to find yourself in a situation where a gun will be present and you are the one that will be required to make sure that it is safe for the situation you are in.
That is only the basic responsibility. Now there is the big one that many people do not like to think about. No matter what many people think the courts have ruled, the responsibility of each individuals personal safety is the job of that citizen. The police have neither the power or the responsibility of each individuals safety, their job is the collective safety of the community in which they are appointed to protect. It is a physically impossible task for them to do that. It is not their job to do it because our founding fathers designed the Constitution to instill personal responsibility into each person who lives in this country.
The other responsibility of the Second Amendment comes from the idea of governments not being very trustworthy. The tendency of power is to try and usurp more power. In this sense the founding fathers were very forward thinking. With these guns that we have so many of we are expected to protect ourselves, our homes, and our country, which sometimes must be protected from our country. Fortunately that has not yet had to happen. Hopefully it never will, but successful people are those who plan for the worst and hope for the best.
In the mean time it is the responsible thing to do to know how to handle firearms. That person in the church did not care about any ones rights any more than he cared about his responsibilities. My prayers are with the preachers family who must now go on without a father, and for a congregation that must continue on without their senior pastor, as well as a town that must be in shock over the whole thing, But as a Christian I also have the responsibility to pray for the man who brought all this grief into that town. Justice will be served out in full measure, but compassion must also be given a full measure to every one involved. Just like the second amendment this is an American responsibility.
